Snack Time

I love snacks. I used to be a snackaholic back when I lived at home with my parents. But for the past couple of years I really haven't snacked all that much and I really should. Snacking is actually good for you. You know why? Because if you eat a snack when your hungry you end up not overeating later on. Well that's good to know. Up until a few weeks ago I tended to not eat at all until I got to the point where I was starving and when I finally fixed a meal or I went out and got fast food I ended up eating more than I needed. I knew all about this before I just wish I would of done it. If I eat something small when I first get hungry I don't pig out so much later on. Here's my recent excuse. For a long time after Noah was born it seemed like I didn't have any extra time to fix myself something because he always needed me, well luckily he is becoming more independent and doesn't need me as much as before. Fortunately now I have more time to myself which means I can actually take the time to fix myself something quick to eat. Before I would usually wait till dinner when Pat got home. So basically I would be starving by the time he came and it sucked. I'm happy I finally have the time to eat. Here is a good article from the Mayo Clinic on snacking.
Snacks: How they fit into your weight-loss plan.
So my idea is to write a list of foods that you like and make sure you keep them stocked, that way you'll never go hungry.
Here a
re some of my favorites:
Bear Naked Trail Mix
Carnation Instant Breakfast
Peanut Butter Sandwich
Can of
Tuna with Saltine crackers
Turkey Sandwich with mustard
Sliced Apples with Almond Butter
Almonds, Cashews, Peanuts
Potato Chips with Cottage Cheese
Tortilla Chips & Homemade Salsa
Jell-O Pudding Cups
Baked Chips

Paranormal Romance

My current favorite genre. I discovered the world of paranormal romance a few years back during a camping trip to Payson. We were at the Walmart in Payson getting something we needed can't remember what exactly but I decided to check out their books and I stumbled upon Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michelle Barsdley. I thought the cover was interesting and I've always been into Vampire fiction. I read the back of the book and it really caught my attention. Can their really be such a genre out there combining Action, Romance, Comedy, and the Supernatural? And the answer is Yes! I started reading it on our last day of the trip and I was immediately hooked. When I came back to Phoenix I found out this was the second of book of the Broken Heart, Oklahoma Series. Bardsley had 2 sequels in the works. At present there are currently five books in the series and I'm hoping for more to come. Here's a link to her site, michelebardsley.net. The first book in the series I'm the Vampire That's Why was also very good, here's the synopsis. "There's a new breed of soccer mom in town-with fangs. Does drinking blood make me a bad mother? That's the question single mom Jessica Matthews faces when she wakes from a savage attack sucking on the thigh of Patrick O'Halloran, a super-hot Irish vampire who'd generously offered his femoral artery to save her from death...only to make her one of the undead. Jessica can't rest until the beast that did this to her is caught. Meanwhile, she's having trouble committing to Patrick (in the vampire handbook, physical intimacy costs you several hundred years of being bound together) and keeping her kids in line."
I checked out Bookman's and found several other vampire book series. The second was the Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson. The first book in the series is Undead and Unwed here's the synopsis, "First Betsy Taylor loses her job, then she's killed in a car accident. But what really bites is that she can't seem to stay dead. And now her new friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen, and they want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious power-hungry vampire in five centuries."
I really enjoy
ed the first book and have been collecting the rest of the series whenever I see them. The Broken Heart and Undead Series are just two of my favorites, there are many more authors which I enjoy and I'll post them at the end of this blog. Another series which I have yet to read is The Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. You'll know the first book Dead Until Dark if you've seen the HBO show True Blood. I really like the show and I've heard the books are even better. The second season is based off of the second book in the series Living Dead in Dallas, like any movie or show based off a book however there's always something they change so don't expect the show to be right on queue with the books. To give them credit though I think they did a pretty good job with the show and it is pretty popular. So if you're a fan of the Twilight book series or even just like the movie be sure to check out the Paranormal Romance section at your local bookstore and look for any of the author's I've listed below.

Trip to Walnut Canyon

On Saturday we decided to go on a family trip up to Flagstaff for the day. My mom, dad, my brother Aaron, Patrick, Noah and myself went. We left Phoenix around 11:30am and headed up. When we arrived in Flagstaff around 2 hours later we stopped at BK for a snack before our hike. Then we continued onto Walnut Canyon National Monument. Ah Flagstaff, what a treat. 72 degrees, cloudy, with a slight breeze. I looooove it. I'd live there if Pat could find a job somewhere. I don't know of too many Tech jobs up there unfortunately. Great place to take a break from Phoenix though. The monotony of 100 plus degree days gets a bit too much for me. "Dry Heat" is just a lie to get tourists to come here, ha. Haven't they heard of Monsoon? Anyways. Back to Walnut Canyon. We had a pass which my dad purchased when we tried going there last year. Didn't get to use it because of the boulder the size of a VW Bug sitting in the path. So unfortunately we never got to do much other than a scenic hiking path atop the Canyon. I was almost 7 months pregnant then, so after doing the hike this year I'm glad their was a ginormous boulder blocking our path, tehee. This weekend happened to be one of the three free weekends the National Parks are doing this summer. SUCK. Cause that made the pass kind of worthless. So we hiked. The monument is pretty cool haven't been there in at least 10 years. http://www.nps.gov/waca/ Here's a link if you want to find out what it's all about and check it out sometime. We brought a carrier for Noah because I knew the path wouldn't accommodate a stroller. I think it would of been a little rough going down those 185 feet of stairs, lol. Patrick had carried him the entire time without a single complaint, what a good daddy. Speaking of daddies, Sunday was Father's Day, happy holiday to all you Father's out there. We took Pat to Fatburger since it's one of his favorite's. So after the hike which was pretty exhausting we headed back into Flag and had dinner at our favorite local spot, Strombolli's. Best pizza, best salad and garlic bread ever. A bit pricey but well worth it if your'e ever in Flagstaff or Cottonwood. Following dinner we headed across the street to Bookman's which is sort of a tradition in our family whenever we're up in Flag. We always have to eat at Strombolli's and check out the used literature at Bookman's. I found several paranormal romances that I haven't read before. If you like the Twilight series and shows like True Blood you might wanna check out the Paranormal Romance section of your local bookstore or library, hopefully they have one. Because it's a bit hard sifting through all the normal romance books looking for the vampire ones. We ended up spending about an hour or so in Bookman's and after that we went home. While my mom kept my dad awake on the way back, the rest of us fell asleep in the back of the van. Overall we had a nice relaxing mini vacay. Next month we're planning a camping trip to the rim in Payson. That should be fun.
